FrWhat gave you the initial inspiration for your track “Desolate”?
“Quarantine vibes really– I’m always curious how much of my intent gets across to listeners, but in my mind the track is about feeling lonely, distant, and a little hopeless. The sorrowful melodic granular part in the beginning. The monotonous string pluck in the intro overtop the wordless and meaningless vocal chatter. The bass sound design that sounds like something’s broken. Real sadboy hours?”
When did you start producing music? What drove you to get started?
“I started making music when i was 13. Initially it was just me messing around in Garage Band with apple loops but it felt like a good way of expressing myself and i kept going with it”
What’s your work process like? Do you have a schedule for doing specific steps in your production technique?
(ex. mixing days, set times for sound designing)
“For the past couple years I’ve been doing most of the mixing as I make the track, and I have my master chain on from the minute I open a new project file. I find that actively working into a limiter instead of throwing one on after gives a better sounding result, and mixing as I go helps me focus for longer– if i’m stuck on sound design i’ll switch to messing with levels and imaging for a while, and vice versa.”
How has it been for you to make music during the pandemic? Have you learned anything new?
“Pandemic vibes have been interesting. I definitely have a lot more time, but being able to stay motivated and make good use of that time can be a struggle. Most days I get a good amount done, other days I accidentally game for 16 hours straight.”
If you could pick any artist to collaborate with, dead or alive, who would It be and why?
“Within the EDM realm probably Space Laces”
As we dive deeper into the latter half of the year, what are some goals you’d like to achieve before the end of 2020? Personal or within your FROST brand…
“I’ve been working on rebranding recently. Desolate was the final “frost 1.0” release before I start releasing the new 80s/cyberpunk/synthwave theme I’ve been working on!”
Do you have any other projects, songs, or collaborations you’d like to plug besides Desolate?
“CYBERFROST COMING SOON (still just called frost though)”
