Christian: DROPWIZZ, thank you so much for taking the time to do this interview with us, you’ve had a massive start to 2021 with your recent VIP release of “FOOTWORK” on brednbutter. Did you celebrate by eating a ton of toast?
DROPWIZZ: Thanks a lot for the opportunity! I indeed did eat a lot of toast and butter; you cannot forget the butter! The FOOTWORK original did extremely well, it caught the eye of a few Spotify editorial playlists which was a first for me!
Christian: Congratulations! What sparked the inspiration for you to transition from such a unique style of Leftfield or Experimental Bass music, into the style of this newer track “Escape”. What I’d call almost Liquid DnB, but with a melody and sound design that is noticeably DROPWIZZ
DROPWIZZ: I’m sure a lot of listeners did not expect a melodic DnB tune from me given I usually lean towards trap and bass. When I’m not working on music, I usually listen to various different genres besides the bass stuff, one being liquid Dnb, I love this genre so I made something with the touch of my usual sound.
Christian: Has the effect of the pandemic been drastic for you as an artist? Or have you found it a good opportunity to hone in your sound and grow creatively? Have you learnt anything new?
DROPWIZZ: I live in Canada so we’ve been in and out of lockdown since the beginning of the Pandemic, we are in a lockdown as I write this interview. The live music scene has completely disappeared and seems like its going to be that way till things get better, although being stuck at home has only given me more time to spend on producing tunes and trying new things, for example with Escape.
Christian: Who are a few up and coming artists that you suggest everyone keep an eye on?
DROPWIZZ: There are so many new artists who are making a name for themselves that I even get inspiration from. A few that could name of the top of my head are STRX, ASHEZ, ELDERBASS, wasteurself and IANY. They all have pretty dope sounds, highly recommend anyone check them out.
Christian: You have a very distinct sound to your melodies, sound design, and mix down – how long did it take you to develop your productions this strongly?
DROPWIZZ: Well, I first started learning production back in 2011 so I have been doing this for some time, I started with making progressive house and Electro but since then I have made so many different genres until I fell in love with Bass music. I feel like this experience over the years molded my sound into what it is now and think it will only keep progressing as I experiment and learn.
Christian: A couple of months into the year now, what are some goals you have for the rest of 2021? This could be related to your music, your personal life, anything you interpret it as.
DROPWIZZ: Getting Escape signed on Above was definitely a goal for me and has been for a long time! As for the rest of 2021 my major goal is to release more of my original music, I really enjoy making remixes and flips to point where I don’t spend enough time on original tunes. With more original music I aim to land more labels that I have had my eye on!
Christian: If you have any other projects or releases coming soon that you’d like to plug for the fans, let us have it!
DROPWIZZ: I do have a very cool project with a bunch of other talented producers, we are releasing a 17-track compilation album on the 12th of April for the launch of our collected called NYT CLUB!
